Nash's First Day of School

So, the day came...and tears were shed (only by momma)...but we all survived.  And I think he's going to love it.  It was definitely harder for me...

We started Nash at daycare today - a Bright Horizons center associated with the Dollar General world headquarters - so we could both transition to a new schedule before I go back to work next Monday.  I can take him when he wakes up in the mornings, and pick him up whenever I can't stand being away from him anymore.  Not sure what I'll do with myself for the week...maybe a nap?  some shopping?  That all feels so selfish though...if I'm home, I want to be with my favorite little man.

Digressing...I really do think he'll love it.  He jumped right in and started playing with the other kiddos who are all right around his age.  His teachers are very loving and didn't make me feel like a wacko for being so concerned about him.   The room is so much fun - bright and cheery (and most importantly - VERY clean), he's going to be so entertained, it will be great.

I dropped him off around 10 and picked him up at 3...maybe by the end of the week we'll work up to a full day?

Fat chance..

Hubba and Mark visit Nashville!

Jill (aka Hubba) and Mark came to visit us in Nashville...we had originally hoped to be in the house by the time they visited - that obviously didn't happen!  We knew regardless of where we were, we'd have a great time - and we definitely did.  Nash had a great time and got lots of extra cuddles from Hubba and Mark, while Roscoe and Tex couldn't get enough of each other.  We hung out at the pool on Saturday afternoon and got to show them the house.  We even managed to score a babysitter on Saturday night and headed out downtown for a yummy adults only dinner and some time on Broadway St downtown.  We had such a fun time, but it is painfully obvious that I (I have to speak only for myself) am not in "college" condition anymore.  Whew!  Or maybe it was that Nash still woke up at 6 am...he didn't quite understand the late night scenario.  He did great with the babysitter though, and we will definitely continue to use Miss Jordan - she's great with Nash.

Jill and Mark - thanks for making the drive down...we love you and can't wait to see you soon!

7 month update

Our love bug is 7 months old...can you believe it?  Here is a recap of our favorite little boy at 7 months old:
  • Homemade baby food is by far Nash's favorite - peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, pears...loves them all.  I steamed them, pureed them to a nice consistency in the food processor and froze them in ice cube trays - worked great and he LOVES them!  We'll see how often I have time for that, considering we're getting ready for another move!
  • Nash is still on sensitive formula and taking about 4 bottles a day with food for breakfast and dinner.  Usually about 6 ounces every bottle.
  • Nash has officially outgrown some of his baby gear - namely the swing and the bouncer...he can wiggle himself to the point they'd flip if we weren't right there!  To storage they go...
  • Size 3 diapers are now in stock at the Murphy household, and we really liked the Sam's Club brand.  We've gotten to the point where we're not picky about what he wears...we don't seem to have a problem with blowouts (knock on wood).  Huggies, club brand, Pampers - whatever is on sale!
  • Now that we're nice and comfortable and settled in the apartment...Nash is sleeping well once again.  Of course that means we'll be moving soon (hopefully in a few weeks!) and the process will start over.  Whew!  We're ready to be in a permanent place, that's for sure!
  • In the cute department...he tops the charts.  He's so interactive now and absolutely recognizes mommy and daddy.  What a great feeling!

    Our new house!

We have officially closed on our house...we're so excited!  We have a list of things we want to do before we move in, and we're going to do our best to be sure those things happen - especially because we don't have to vacate our apartment until the end of September.  We are thrilled that none of the other places we put offers in on worked out - this one is perfect for us.  It's the area of town we wanted, the schools we wanted, plenty of backyard for Roscoe dog, a huge pool, a covered deck, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, updated kitchen, gorgeous hardwood floors, vaulted ceiling in the living room....the only thing I could ask for is a bigger master closet!  :)

Hopefully we'll be moved in by mid September...

    "What's your emergency?"

In my 29 1/2 years of life, I've never dialed 911.  Nash has me beat - by a long shot.  Not even 7 months old...he made his first emergency call to 911.  No, I'm not kidding.

Roscoe was asleep on the bed, Nash was playing on the floor with toys (and obviously my phone was lying there too) - I thought I probably had a few seconds to steal away to use the restroom.  As I'm washing my hands, I hear my phone ringing and rush out to answer it.  "Emergency dispatch, what's your emergency ma'am?"

To say I was a bit shocked was an understatement...as I explained to the woman the only people around were my 6 month old and my Labrador retriever.  As I begged her not to send any emergency vehicles to our apartment, Nash played quietly on the floor as if he was completely innocent.  Thankfully, after speaking to a supervisor - I convinced them there really was NO emergency and that we did not need a police officer, EMT, or a fireman to come to our rescue.

    Nash man...you little bugger!

    Spoiled at Kentucky Lake!

At the end of July, we all took off for a week of relaxing at a lake house on Kentucky Lake.  We were meeting my family (mom, dad, Jessi, Tyler, Macy, Mya, Katy, Clint, and Grandma Harshman) and Matt's family (mom, dad, Mark) were coming with us for about 4 days.  Aunt Becky, Uncle Brad, Aunt Dianna, and Uncle Dave were going to spend a day with us as well.  How fun!  The house was full of lots of squeals, cuddles, dirty diapers, cuddles, cuteness, ooohs and ahhhs, and ridiculous amounts of cuddles - did I mention that?

We had a great time - Nash had all of his aunts and uncles and grandparents in one place.  What a lucky little guy.  We did a whole lot of nothing - eating well, grilling out, relaxing by the pool, tubing/boating on the lake, and some cornhole.  Nash's sleep habits definitely took a turn for the worst during the week though - we were up at least two hours every night with him, screaming in pain.  Poor baby.  My mom, in all of her baby wisdom, asked if we had considered reflux - and sure enough, after researching all of the symptoms of reflux...he had pretty much every one of them.  I called his doctor back in Nashville and she agreed with our assessment and called in a prescription for baby Zantac.  Sure enough, the first night he was on it - no screaming in pain.  He's been on it ever since and our household is sleeping so much better for it!

Nannie and Opa and Mark had to leave us on Wednesday, and we were sad to see them go!  We spent the rest of the week doing more of the same...it was a great time!  It's always good to get back home and get back into our routine, but we loved being able to hang out with our families for such an extended period of time.  We always miss them when we're away, and wish we were closer!

We barely remembered to take any pictures while we were there...
